Monday 10 September 2012

Today we made two big chocolate cakes.
We put in 2 eggs, brown sugar, milk , oil and golden syrup.

Then we had to stir it together.
We got the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cocoa and mixed it together.
Then we added it to the liquids.
After we mixed them together we put them into a microwave baking dish and cooked it for 12 minutes.

These are the two cakes we made.

The cakes were so yummy after we made icing and put sprinkles on them!

We were reading our map that shows how many people have looked at our blog from other countries and we would love some people to contact us so we can talk to them.
So please leave us your blog address or a message so we can contact you!
Thanks from all of Shaw Block One children at Paeroa Central School, North Island, New Zealand.
                                 Olympic Games 2012

The Olympics Games are being held in London now. Most countries have sports teams there.
We looked at the Olympic rings and found out they show all the colours of the flags in the World.

This is our New Zealand flag with the Southern Cross on it.
Keanu, Karapi, Mia, Eric, Davon, and Stephen-George watched some of the Games on TV.

What sports have you watched at home?
Tell us tomorrow.

                         The Flood July 2012

On Monday we had extraordinarily heavy rain and the Ohinemuri River spilled over it's banks and flooded everything.
Mrs Hack had to leave in a hurry because the river had gone over the road in the Karangahake Gorge otherwise she might have had to stay the night in Paeroa.
Pounamu, Laith, and Teremoana had to go home too because the Criterion Bridge was going to be closed.
Sandy had to stay to look after the rest of the class.
Mrs Hack had to stay home on Tuesday as well but Sandy came to school.
There were 9 kids in class because the roads were still closed.

The floodgates were put up at the Criterion Bridge to stop the water flooding the College and the town.

Sunday 3 June 2012

We looked at the photos and videos of the bubbles that were made and chose some for our blog.

The bubbles got bigger as we got better at making them.

Nikita made different shaped bubbles while Boston and Daniel watched.

Monday 28 May 2012

We have been doing extra fun learning things on Thursday afternoons and some big kids came to our room and made bubbles.
They worked like scientists to make a square bubble.
Some kids said you couldn't do it but we went on Google and found a video.
Wow! We made square bubbles!!!!!!!!

Thursday 3 May 2012

We like Buddy Reading with Room 4 on Tuesdays because it is fun.

We get to choose the books they read to us.

Tuesday 27 March 2012

We had fun at our school camp out at Waitawheta even though it rained most of the time!  We slept in a big bunkroom which was lots of fun and very noisy.
The teachers had lots of activities for us to do inside and then on Tuesday afternoon the sun came out for a little while and we were able to go on the low ropes course.
The flying fox was our favourite and it really zoomed down to the tyres.
There was a man holding on to the rope at the bottom to slow us down!
Mia nearly fell off the slippery log but then she got her balance and was safe!
We had fun on the little flying fox as well because it wasn't as scary as the big high one.
Here are some of the things we did.
Welcome to SB1s world of Monarch Butterflies.
Well our caterpillars are all eating and we don't have much swan plant left for them to eat.
We now have 45 caterpillars, 20 chrysalis' and we have freed 4 butterflies.
Every day we have to put the caterpillars back on the plants because the small ones get knocked off by the big fat ones!
We are learning heaps about the Monarch Caterpillar and Butterfly.
We have been making butterflies and caterpillars to decorate our room.

Tuesday 13 March 2012

Shaw Block 1 are studying the Life Cycle of the Monarch Butterfly. We are growing our swan plants and looking after them to make sure the caterpillars have lots to eat because that is their favourite food.
We have been watching the caterpillars closely and we can see how their jaws work.

Three of the big fat ones have used up all their stripey skins and turned into a chrysalis. We are waiting for them to pop out to see what they look like.

Tuesday 14 February 2012

Hi Shaw Block Stars.
We now have a new blog for our classroom that we are going to write stories on. We will be able to write about what we are doing in our classroom and put photos on it too.
You and your parents are going to be able to read our stories and write comments about  everything we have posted.
We are going to have fun doing this.
