We have started a programme for learning new exciting words by Sandra Iversen.
We read the The Bug Band and some other cool books.
We got out our instruments and we played in our band. We had lots fun playing with the drums, xylophone, cymbals, bells, triangles and tambourines.
We have also been learning lots of new poems and looking at concept cards on the interactive board.
We love our new programme.

Welcome to Shaw Block One 2014.
We have been very busy this year with our trip and our learning.
We went to Bowentown for our school picnic.
It was a hot day and we had lots of fun.
Keith found seaweed, Benji threw seaweed at people, Te Tahi was playing in the sand and he made some castles.
Cassidy built a big sandcastle, Exodus splashed in the water, Tipene made a fish in the sand, Jodeci had a swim, Kenehi pretended that he was being eaten by a shark,
Te Ahu loved making a hole in the sand, and
Sovereign loved swimming in the sea.
This is the mural we made of our beach trip.
We had swimming for 6 weeks and learned lots of different skills.
We practiced water safety and had a Parents Day to show what we could do.
We are learning to be Self Managers and get ready for school and bring our book bags into class, write our names on the mimio and the computer.
We are learning about "respect" for people and our school environment by "being kind to others".
We have been learning about Monarch Butterflies and caterpillars.
Last year we grew Swan Plants and we had to bring them inside because the wasps were killing them outside.
We have been watching the caterpillars crawling around eating our leaves. When they have lost 4 skins they turn into a chrysalis and they stay in there for 2 weeks then they change into a Monarch Butterfly.
Then we have to put a tag on them with a number on it to say it comes from Paeroa Central School so people can identify where they have come from.

All this term we have carried on with Electives and the group who worked here had to do seed raising for the others to plant in our school gardens.
We couldn't plant the rainbow carrots in our seed trays so we put them straight in the garden.
Putting together our seed raising house.

March
We have been very busy doing heaps of exciting things. Our class has had Swan plants growing in our room for the Monarch Caterpillars to eat.
We have been watching the caterpillars out of their skins.
We found out that they lose 4 skins before they spin into their chrysalis.
We watched a caterpillar spin into it's chrysalis and it took a long time.
This year our teacher decided we should tag the Monarch Butterflies for the Monarch Butterfly NZ Trust.
We had to put tags on their fiscal cell under their wings. The female tags have to go on their left wing and the male tags go on their right wing.
We hope that somebody finds our tagged butterflies and reports them.
